Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
You may remember that since I started testing the V4 Jump selection
method that on 6 occasions (so Far) it has selected a tip in the
same race as V3 Jump has, and on all of those occasions both systems
have won, because both of the selections lost the race.
Well it has happened again today, so although I am sticking my neck
out again, I thought that I may as well tell you about it.

In running betting is an area that is interesting me quite a lot now
especially as I can use bet-pal and “one click” betting.
The major problem is things can move quite quickly but if you have a
strategy already planned then you can pick up some good prices on
either side of the trade.
The movement of prices during in running can be quite pronounced and
it is not unusual to see even a firm favourites price swing from one
say 2.00 to 10 and back again, quickly but it does happen and if you
are quick enough then the are trading opportunities here.
If you are trying to get the best price possible for your selection
in running then you have to be totally committed to your choice no
matter what side you are on, because the movement of prices can easily
fool you into thinking you have lost when a couple of seconds later
the opposite happens.
I have often lessened my liability by a couple of points on a
favourite that looked like it may win, only to find at the last moment
it was beaten, but I can only do this because even if the horse looks
like it is winning I am confident it wont.
If you are backing then there are probably great opportunities to get
better prices especially on a horse that doesn’t look like it is in
the running, but eventually wins.
At the end of the day as you can see there is no easy answer to the
question “when is the best time to bet?”, it is down to personal
preference although I would argue 10am on wards to about 10 minutes
before the off, would give you the most settled prices, after that lots
of things can happen!
It is very much like everything else in horse racing, it is personal
preference.

The rules are:
Lay bet only as close to the off as you can get. Only lay if
it's odds at the normal bookies is between 1/2 and 15/8.

racingPost's own Desktop betting shop.
