Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
While looking at the "The Deadly sins of Gambling" I couldn't help but
wonder about the "greed" one and why I get hung up on it so much.
I mean greed is probably a bit harsh, I don't think any of us are
intentionally greedy but the thought of winning a little more becomes
a little very inviting.
I remember watching a film years ago (can not remember what it was
called) where this character in the film had a heavenly figure on
one shoulder and the devil himself on the other. Every time he deicide
to do something these two would argue it out and quite often the little
devil would win.
I sometimes feel I also have them sitting on my shoulders as well. I
remember when I gave up smoking I had one on the left shoulder telling
me how bad it was and how it was effecting my life and what it could
be doing to my health, but at the same time I had the other guy telling
me how much I enjoyed it, that I needed to smoke to keep calm, if you
smoke then you will no what I mean.
So it came to me one day that in order for me to quit I would have to
give the good guy more and better reasons for giving up, so he could
outwit the bad guy who wanted me to continue.
k I know I am mad and you probably already know this if you have
been reading my emails for any length of time, but the truth is it
worked.
I wrote down every reason why I should not smoke and how it was
effecting me, the people around me (my wife has never smoked), what it
was costing me etc, etc, you get the idea. Anyway the next day I gave
up, no patches, no acupunture, no hypnotist just a good guy on my
shoulder who could argue against the bad guy and that was 16 years ago!
So what does this have to do with greed?
Nothing really I just like the story...
...no just kidding.
If you want to kick any bad habit you have to give yourself good
reasons for doing it, just make sure you convince yourself that
going for that "one more bet" will cost you money, will show you have
no self discipline....
So next time you have won your target or are on a losing run and no
you need to stop make sure the good guy has enough good arguments to
shut the bad guy up so you have the best chance of winning long term.
