We started talking about Graham and Brian's http://www.laybackracing.co.uk/ yesterday and the lay side.

I had an email from a regular reader who ask me to point out that a system is just a way of trying to beat the odds and so a "stop at a winner" system is just another way of helping it along.

Of course he is correct there is never going to be a perfect system, you are always going to get losers and losing streaks and the only way you can see if something works long term is to either watch it or try it. I will say that unlike some tipters I know, Graham and Brian have been building up a very large database over the last few years, from test they have been running which has allowed them to find two systems, that may not be perfect, but are showing a profit when many out there are not.

So as I have been saying all along, if you base your research on facts then your more likely to do well.

I mentioned last week that I had been reading about trading and the mind set you need in order to be successful. Well one of the other things this writer mentioned was "focus".

If you put facts and focus together you have a very powerful combination, because you will be looking at what is real and focusing so much on it that you will see the potential and any flaw in what you are looking at. It will also show you the reality of what you are likely to be able to make (or not!) rather than what someone else is telling you.

I suppose "Realism" or being "Realistic" are other words that are not used much in this industry but maybe they should be. if they were then people wouldn't believe they could make £14,000 in one month or 100pts profit.

You have to be sensible. I once wrote here that I was happy to increase my bank by 5% a month. I got quite a few emails saying "how I could be happy with that?".

Well the answer to that is - if I am increasing my bank by 5% every month then I am winning and not losing, which is what matters. Even if I increase it by 1% then I am still winning in a game where 90% of people lose. I will be honest I prefer 1% a day, but things don't always go to plan and sometimes I have bad months, but I expect them.
