Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
I hate to wish time away but the last two weeks have been a pretty
difficult time for me and the selections I am suggesting, so role
on the end of May!
I must appologise to a reader this morning, regarding the suggestion
"Highstrike" for my new lay tips, actually it was for the Miracle
System!
Although even that's not living up to it's name at the moment.
I have had a few suggestions for new names coming in and one was
that I should run a competition with the winner getting the system
if it is released.
That sounds good to me, but I will want to set up a suggestion page
on the website so at least we can have some fun with it, so I will
do this in the next couple of days.
I was expecting a few more emails about Jockeys and Trainers but it
was interesting to read the ones I did get.
As I have already said I am not totally convinced that they are
usefull but I have just got hold of TrainerTrends and it does make
interesting reading.
I don't want to go into that to much at the moment but there are
certainly trends that should be discussed.
As you know I have created quite a few systems myself and many of
them have used the course Jockey and Trainer 5 year stats as
a filter, which I normally set around the 15% mark.
Normally if either has a record above this percentage then beware
but to be honest my long term records are showing that this mark
is probably to low and they don't really make a difference unless
they are in the 20's.
Of course 5 years stats may be to long and we should really be
looking at a shorter time span, even just the past season.
My argument against using these stats (any at all) is that I think
they may cloud the issue for two main reasons.
1. You only have to look at the daily press and see the comments to
know that many tipsters just pick a horse based on the T/J paring
even if the runner has past form no better than a donkey.
2. Even if the J/T have high percentages they are normally around
the 20 to 30% mark, which still means they only win 1 in 4 or 1 in 3
races.

Question of the day.
Q. I use the Racing Post online to make my selections, especially
the Betting Site. Could you tell me what the red bracketed numbers
are to be found after the horse's name on the Price Comparison Chart
which is under the race details
A. Plenty of you new the answer to this one.
These numbers are the Racing Post's Ratings, and are the same as
shown on the Postdata information panel.
