Good Morning.

Woke up with a bit of a cold this morning so feeling a little sorry for myself but happy that we had a full house yesterday!

Staking

We have already seen that it would be silly to use the Martingale staking system to get back any loses on a win system, and to be quite honest with a potential of 12 losers in a row, we have to accept just about any staking plan would be costly.

Using our RacingPost example, we could make the assumption that this probably won’t happen often and we know on average there is 1 winner every 4 races.

So the first thing to do is set a limit to maximum losing races you are prepared to use the staking plan on, in this case I would make it 5, this is one more than the average so it should give us a little advantage.

We know that the average odds are 4/1 so we do not have to use a radical staking plan to get our winnings back, if we can in fact get a winner at these odds.

One of my favourites is to take your first losing stake and add it to the next race…

Now before you bite my head off, after the first loss this is doubling your stake, but after that you are only adding your original stake to your next stake.

I think an explanation is in order.

Using 5% of our £500 fantasy bank we lose on the first bet

Stake Bank

25 475 after loss

Our next bet is £50 but we lose again:

50 425 after loss

Now we add our original stake to our loses from the last bet so our next bet is:

75 350 after loss

We lose again so our next bet is:

100 250 after loss

Statistically we should have had won on the last bet but just in case lets go to 5th race which we win at 3/1

125 * 3/1 = 375 + 250.00 (existing bank) total bank now £625.00

Don’t get me wrong I know this is radical and to be successful you either need lots of low price winners or a few good winners of 2/1 or more.

Also you wouldn’t be able to use the above plan past 5 loses, but in theory it should work with these tips.

Of course you could also change it slightly by only using say half of your original losing stake so after your first loss of £25 your next bet would be £37.50 and so on.

You must remember though that if you lost on the 5th race then you must revert back to 5% of your bank, you may also want to consider using a smaller % of your bank when using a staking plan 2 or 3% would be better and may mean you could take the staking plan a little further.

The thing to do is test on paper until you come up with a plan you are comfortable with, which is the real trick. I see far too many people introduce a staking plan without thinking the consequences through, and they are same people that blame everyone but themselves for their losses!

I know that sounds harsh but unfortunately it’s true.

Lets watch the RacingPost tips over the next few days using the staking plan

They lost with Lizarazu yesterday which was their first loss after a win, so our fantasy bank is now at £475.00 and todays stake is £50.

Attorney in the 17.50 Giidwiid is today’s tip and at the moment is trading at 7.8 on the exchanges.

Tomorrow we will look at the lay side of staking plans.

Have good day's racing.
