Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
Not a good day for me yesterday, I had intermittent
broadband problems all day, which meant betting became quite difficult and I
missed a lot of races. BT are sending me a new modem.
------------------ I had a loser on
Fancy
Fillies yesterday but it was at a quite short price so it shouldn't be to
hard to make up the loss. This week I am going to review a new ebook
from Format Racing which came to me over the weekend and is in
fact a dutching system with some very interesting facts in it about
dutching.
I didn't have a very good day yesterday with the system, my
first few races were all losers and then I had the problems with my broadband
connection which meant I couldn't carry on betting.
I have had a couple
of emails over the system one praising it and the other coming from the other
extreme.
Strangely I can see both points of view, on the one side it
seems as if it should work fine and the statistics given in the ebook back this
up, but because the system calls for certain races to be passed over then this
is likely to effect the statistics.
I am going to try and be opened
minded and see how it goes for this week, but it is quite and expensive product
so it is going to have to be good!

------------------ We have a Triple Treat selection today. 6.50
Perth: Champagne Harry 1. Back the above selection as a Nap to
win. 2. As near to the off as possible check at Betfair who is the
next shortest horse in betting and Lay it. 3. Take both the above
selections and back 40% of your normal stake on the named favourite to win and
60% Lay on the next shortest priced runner. Please note: No lay
if Champagne Harry is a NR. ---------------- I had a lot of
emails about high priced lays and it is a subject I want to talk a bit more
about.
A couple of things that you should be aware of:
1. The
higher the price the higher the potential loss.
I think you probably
realise that the liability can be a problem and the decision of how much you
are prepared to risk, has to be up to you.
I have heard from people the
last couple of weeks that lay all the way up to about 60. Now although I would
not recommend this, these people have clearly done their research and feel very
comfortable taking on these high odds and as I have said before, research is
the key.
One of my rules when laying at the higher odds is to be aware
of NR's and I don't often lay on races where a NR's has come from one of the
runners ahead of my selection in the betting.
2. It is a lot harder to
use a staking plan after a loss.
A big loser is going to knock you back
quite a bit but they can be so rare at these odds that level stakes or a very
conservative staking plan can make your losses up.
I know a couple of
people who use the lay ladder but this is a big risk and you need to be using
very small stakes, compared to your bank but the chances of having two losers
in a row then this is still a possibility.
A better method may be to get
the loses back over 5 or even 10 selections. Depending on the odds 5 upwards is
the figure I tend to use.
It is finding a level where it is not to
expensive and you can get your loses back before you lose again.
