Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
I have been asked
the question. Is there is a difference between "Scalping" and
"Trading"?
I asked Nat at TSF e-zine about this in a quick conversation and he
outlined what he feels are the 3 main types of trades.
Please note, Nat
didn't know his answers were going to find his way into this email, so this is
only a brief "of the cuff" answer to the question. "First things first,
anything you can gamble on that is sports related is a trade. Scalping-
a series of quick thinking in and out trades where you are winning or losing
1,2,3 or so ticks. Swing Trading- taking a position during a game and
then trading out once either A you achieve your profit target or B you hit your
stop loss. A typical example would be the system I outlined in the
twenty20twenty newsletter (TSF E-zine subscribers workshop). These type of trades may
last several hours but they could equally be settled in minutes.
Positional Trading- The more traditional style of trading involves backing
or laying a selection pre race or match and hoping that you have taken a value
position. You would not be looking for short term gains, rather a long term
profit, up until very recently this was considered the norm and still is with
most. If you are prepared to do a lot of studying (you will need to
know your sport inside out if you are to find your edge "the value"), then all
the positional trader requires is the discipline and mental attributes to cope
with, the swings that occur whilst waiting to pick up their profit"
Thanks Nat. http://www.tsf-ezine.co.uk/
I
will admit I am probably a "scalper" as are a good % of traders on the
exchanges although as always if you want to make money from trading then you
need to have all three types in your repertoire.
I normally "scalp" if I
am betting near the off to the race. As
Nat said during
twenty20twenty, golf or cricket then swing trading is more likely the scenario
used.
But I also use positional trading sometimes. F1 racing as many of
you know is a sport I enjoy and know quite well, so it can be quite easy for me
to take a long term position, just because I have developed a sense of what
could happen during a season.
I hope that helps answer that
question. ----------------- My
