Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
Yesterday's best lay of the day
was a classic example of being careful when you make a bet. Clearly with 5 NR's
this would have been a "No Bet". I normally use the 10% (reduction) rule now
for most of my systems as this will show up any significant NR immediately.
When creating your own system it
is very important that you create rules to safeguard you in certain situations.
NR's are pretty easy to spot but sometimes jockeys can be replaced and the
ground can change because of a lot of rain or an exceptional hot day these
changes are not always easy to see but should be watched for.
Most systems take the race as a
whole and then selects a runner by using a specific criteria an example could
be.
8 runners or more where the
favourite is under 2 and the 3rd favourite (our selection) is at least 100
(betfair) ticks away. Check out 14.40 Leicester for an example.
So although this is a pretty
basic system (which I just made up!) there are a couple of points that you have
to be careful with.
Obviously if the favourite or
the 2nd favourite are NR's then it has to be a "no bet", but also if there are
any other significant NR's then the reduction factor could change the price,
although this shouldn't effect the price differences, public reaction to the NR
could.
I often think of using the race
card when I first see it as a snapshot and if there are any changes to that
card before the off, then maybe the race should be left alone. There are plenty
of punters out there with a lot more experience and know how than me and if the
second favourite suddenly becomes the first, then there is something going
on!

The idea is really to select "one a day" to
lay bet (http://www.laybetting.com/) on betfair or
betdaq, which should be the shortest price. David has set a maximum price limit
of 12/1 or 13 on betfair. The main rule (and one we have started to use across
a number of our systems) is that you should not bet if the reduction factor for
the race is 10% or more.
