12th December 2007
Todays ramblings
Good Morning.
First of all I set
myself a limit of the maximum odds I will take. Now you have to look at the
tips because if the average odds are 25/1 but you will not bet over 20/1 then
you will really limit yourself.
I tend to take the average odds as a
good starting place then I get a bank of say £200 and split this into 10
which is £20 a bet.
As I said I start of by cheating and I bet
below £2.00 on betfair if I have to. http://www.laybetting.com/under-2-betfair.htm
So
I take my £20 and divide it by the available odds.
So lets say we
only had 24.00 available.
20.00 / 23.00 (24.00-1) = 0.87
So my
bet is 87p.
Ok I know this is small and hardly worth it but I am using
this to get me used to the odds and the bets. I could change any of the figures
and after every winning day you can re-calculate your bank so to have a bit
more to work with.
Also by using such a small part of your bank for
liability you have some spare if you have a loser.
Another trick I try
is, if the odds are higher than I want to take then I will put a bet into the
market anyway. You will be surprised how often you can get a match even though
the odds don't reflect the price you asked for.
So what do we do if we
lose?
As Psycho said in his article although you could have 2 losers in
a row at these odds it is very unlikely but it is more likely that you will
have a few if not more winners before your next loser.
So you now have 3
choices. 1. Re adjust your stakes based on the loss 2. Ignore the loss
and take your next £20 and see if you can make up the loss before the
next one, which is likely. 3. Introduce a loss recovery idea.
Now any
loss recovery idea at these odds are going to be dangerous so you need to
really be careful.
Here is how I do it...
First of all I decide
on a figure that I feel represents a number of wins in a row I am likely to
have.
Now going back to our example of The Almost Certain Nap. http://www.thealmostcertainnap.co.uk/
It
was the 11th May this year after 147 selections we had our first
loser.
Loss at 148 Loss at 177 Loss at 187 Loss at 195 Loss
at 250 Loss at 306 Loss at 344
The worse case scenario above was 7
wins in between two losers, which is a good place to start.
We could use
7 races to try and make up the loses knowing that we are likely to have a run
of 7 before the next loser if not more.
This is still a risky strategy
and you may want to take a lot higher number accepting that along the way you
may lose a bit more but somewhere along the line you should get a long enough
winning run to make it up.
Whenever I am dealing with selections like
this I know that it is going to be difficult to make 1000's in returns, but
they do make nice investment selections and I can normally do far better than
the banks can offer, which you need to offset the risk involved.
