Following on from our discussion earlier in the week about a Jockey
who has now received a 21 day ban (you know who he is...LOL.
Anyway I received this email and thought it would be interesting for you
to see another persons view, especially as they have some experience with
horses.
Here it is.
"Hi, Malcolm,
I've had a read through the articles. There are no new aspects to the
corruption side of racing. I could add a few points of my own, from the
husbandry and physical handling of horses.
It may be a cynic's point of view. We should have more women involved
in the sport. We've now female jockeys, who unlike say the USA, do not
have a high profile. I'm an experienced horse rider. You do not have to
throw yourself off a horse to lose the race, that's naive.
All you need to do is mentally lose confidence, transfer this physically
through contact with the horse. This very quickly alters the pattern of
running.
I still think the Jockey Club and various organisations to do with racing
are living in a time capsule. "Too much of the old boys network".
I'm not a great fan of certain elements of the press. The calibre and
quality of news is poor. Compare this with the soaps on TV, (yuck) all
s*x and scandle. Does it sell programmes? Not for me. It's a similar
style with lots of the tabloids, competing for a diminishing readership.
In the UK we have this negative attitude to those who are successful.
It seems to be a constant tripping up mechanism. I didn't see the Fallon
incident, so I feel I'm not entitled to comment. Both horses and riders
have their off days. I've made lots of mistakes, that's part of being a
human being. Surely Fallon and others are fallible from time to time.
Regards,
Ruth"
I would love to hear what you think.
.....
Cheltenham is getting close and I want to wrap up the competition details
over the weekend, so if you have anything you want to say, please take
the time to do it NOW!

It's looking like this so far...
£5.00 entry fee per day payable through paypal and I will add
another £20 per day to the pot.
I like the idea of a points system as apak24 suggested, it would be
easy for everyone to understand.
Results
1st 5pts
2nd 3pts
3rd 2pts
4th 1pt
SP
below 2/1 1pt
2/1 to 5/1 2pts
11/2 10/1 3pts
11/1 and above 5pts
If Dead heat the largest SP
If still Dead heat the number of 1st
If still Dead heat Number of 2nds
Everyone who enters will get the chance to pick one horse from each race
on that day and then we just add the points up at the end of the day.

INSTRUCTIONS. The selections represent a “lay ladder”.
This means you keep on laying to lose until you hit a loser.
When you hit a loser (your golden Bismark for the day) STOP betting!
If the selection wins, ADD your TOTAL loss to your target for the next
race.
Today we have one extra overspill race. If you are in any doubt as to
the staking system you need to employ,
Don’t forget to stop at a loser!
