18th September 2006.
Sleeping Indian (Miracle System) came 1st, Burning Incense (lay of the
day) came 23rd!
I hope you had a good weekend. I managed to get myself down to the
lake and sailed and I also got out on a windsurfer, something I
haven't done for a while!
I am afraid to say we are losing two of the daily selections in
the next couple of days.
First to go is Luv2lose which opens it's doors as a service today.
Luv2lose is run by John who has been good enough to let use see
his tips for quite a while and I think he has proved that if you
want a low priced "one a day" type of selection then luv2lose should
suit you down to the ground.
John works very hard to find a low cost lay and even gives a quick
overview of why he picked the runner.
I mentioned Friday that this would be the last few day's of "Nags to
Riches", I don't think I need to go in to much detail as we have been
following these selections for quite a while now.
Nags to riches latest winning streak stands at 16 although Friday's
selection was trading at a very high price.
Carrying on from Friday.
Going by own experience and records then up to about 8/1 you are
probably most of the time anyway within the 20% mark.
So a horse with an SP of evens (1/1) could have been trading at
around 1.2 on the exchanges, where as a horse with an sp of 8/1 is
probably near 9.6 but it does start to get fuzzy around this area
but you probably wont be far of the mark.
The thing you really need to consider is was the selection likely have
been in the top 3 of the betting order? At 6/1 or Under (depending
on the number of runners) then it is a good possibility especially in
handicap races but above 8/1 then the chances are less likely.
Unless you keep copies of the racing post then the only way you are
going to find this out is to go back over some of the results and
look at the SP of the other runners to see where the published
I must admit that when I see results where the site is only showing a
date with Win or loss along side them I am very dubious. At the very
least there should be a date of the race and the runner’s name, which
would at least allow you to search for the actual race.
If the runners are priced higher than 8/1 then you start to see the
big gaps that are often found between SP and EP and this becomes more
prominent the higher the price, although again if the runner is still
in the top 3 (maybe 4) this might not be as bad as you feel it could
If you take a quick look at the “Nags to Riches” results, which is
always the favourite in the Racing Post and is likely to still be in
the top 3 in the betting order, you can see that more often than not
the average Betfair price is very close to the SP.
We won with Satchem on Friday.

To get the selections I am just using pointers like RPR and Topspeed
so this really does need refining but seems to be working at the

Friday: 15:10, Newbury, Sleeping Indian 1st 11/8, AV 2.57
We had a winner with Sleeping Indian Friday and as it was 11/8 it
would have been a bet, if we were following the "only bet if evens
or better" hinking.
My Win Selection: (7 winners 9 loser so far)
15:15, Kempton, Dragon Flower @ 1.64
It's always difficult to judge a maiden especially when so many
runners have no form. At such a low price this selection is not good
value, especially with so many unknowns in the race..
"The Deadly sins of Gambling"
